Before Europeans show up and claim this to be a new world it absolutely wasn't I mean it was a territory that was utilized by Native Americans. And you do start to see Native Americans not only hunting in the dismal swamp but in some cases, taking a residence there living there. They are eventually joined there by outcast white outcast from society people who have either escaped indentured from indentures in Virginia or, you know, old taxes and escape down into the northern part of Carolina. The early years of the swamp, probably African Americans were a minority there. And now the, the multiracial nature of the swamp over time, over time I mean it becomes more heavily black. But
