Bond Prices Are Just Cratering
Long-term US treasuries had their worst year on record. Most of them lost about 40% of their value. The banks, including SBB, that were buying treasury bonds with rates that low, they were buying these bonds at all time highs. This is a duration gap, and this is a very dangerous situation, especially for banks.
