Dresden was completely unprepared for what was roaring toward them across the skies of germany. Many major german cities had a complex system of sophisticated air raid shelters, reinforced subterranean bunkers that could protect their inhabitants from bombs. Dresden did not. The senior notse party official responsible for dresden had built a private bunker for himself, but he claimed he couldn't secure the funds for public shelters. Most people obeyed the warning and filed into their basements, cellars or shelters. But it wasn't taken seriously.
