The political left is really engaged in climate but doesn't really want to do innovation or is kind of skeptical of this as a response. I think the most clear are like robust finding I guess we have on climate damage is that climate damage is very nonlinear in expectation which means it's much worse than twice as bad compared to 1.5 degrees. The social cost of carbon is always contingent on a given emissions trajectory and that means that fundamentally like avoiding a ton of carbon in particularly bad future can be orders of magnitude more important than sort of avoiding a tons of carbon in benign future. We should actually be excited about credible serious innovation effort because that's one of the most powerful things any single country
