Care work becomes sort of redefined for these home helpers specifically as the physical provision of support and assistance. And all of these affective and relational and emotional dimensions are increasingly relegated to these unpaid realms. So when these home care workers turn up they end up going above and beyond a lot of the time, they go above and beyond their paid jobs. Their compassion, their sense of responsibility is sort of ruthlessly exploited because that's what keeps these home care services sort of semi functioning, semi functional.
