Introduction

This week, we look at the histories of the smallest nations on earth. They are known as microstates and have a combined land area smaller than Dublin or Philadelphia. How did these tiny nations come to be? How did they survive? Each one has its own history and set of reasons that they haven't been swallowed up by bigger neighbouring nations.
