In perfume, many things can happen at once. Perfumers like sarah mc cartney describe perfumes in terms of top notes, mid or heart notes, and bass notes. Top notes are typically herbs and citros, fruits. Balsams, benzoin, vanelin, apopanax,. lovely, exotic things. And then hiding below those, the ones that last a long, long, long time - which are not normally named because who's going to write down etheline braselate?
