Mental models can be used to extrapolate information from a single problem into all performance issues. This is called over fit, and it causes obvious problems such as classifying dogs that are one inch taller than the ones you paste your model on. There's another kind of subtle point here about over fitting models specifically with relation to kind of metaphorical models.
