The Failure of Liberalism

Liberalism was created to protect the rights of different groups, Catholics, Protestants, German-speaking minorities or Italian-speaking minorities. But what began to happen is that it began to trend towards individual rights over the rights of groups and cultures. So for example, in France, the wearing of the hijab has become a significant cultural issue. The government also wants to come down on the side of perhaps what about individual women within the Islamic community who don't want to wear the hijab but are facing cultural pressure. And so you then be get a government which is trying to be neutral inadvertently then takes a position of authority and power because it's the arbiter of truth.
