Is Rishi Sunak in a Bind?
The government has been locked in negotiations with the EU over the Northern Ireland Protocol. The protocol means EU law applies in Northern Ireland for some of the single market. Rishi Sunak then talked to the Democratic Unionist Party, who've never liked it. Conservative backbenchers believe in a kind of pure Brexit that ensures no part of the UK has the kind of fingerprints of the EU on it. But what they're asking for seems to be quite a long way away from what the UK and the EU have negotiated. So as things stand, the kind of provocation goes on, the negotiation goes on - but there is no deal yet.
