The Endowment Effect
The endowment effect is the idea that once you come to possess something, you suddenly value it more than you did a moment before. There have been hundreds of studies that have shown that humans do this. And so there are lots of explanations that aren't satisfying because they don't explain it in a predictable way. So we decided that to test that by looking at whether or not other species had an endowment effect.
