Introduction

What are dreams for? And i mean, do they provide a sort of medical or evolutionary advantage? Or are they just a by product of a living brain, which would be boring? I don't think we know really. We know that certain good and necessary things happen during rem sleep, which is generally associated with dreaming. That's not the only stage of sleep where we have dreams. At least there's process of memory consolidation that happens during rem so if rem sleep is disrupted a lot, your memory certainly suffers.
