The Importance of Visual Culture in Ancient and Medieval World

I think it's hard when you have a fine arts background and then you have an anthropology background, I imagine you must be tougher on yourself in terms of how you go about doing these things. When you don't know it, then you're not as tough. And so as much as possible, I try to bring that into the classroom. And I do put a huge emphasis sort of on visual culture. As much as my students sort of want to continue looking at their phones, I do my best to bring them into that visual culture.
