In 1908, Billy Durant was trying to consolidate the automobile industry. He asked Henry Ford if he would be interested in buying all of General Motors' companies. Ford had one idea: mass producing an inexpensive car so everybody could buy it. The Dodge Brothers didn't have the complicated structures and reliance on outside financing they did with Ford.
