In 18 58, a prisoner named james mc gee was executed for murder in boston. After his heart stopped beating, after they couldn't hear it with their ears any more, they cut him down and started to dissect his body. And when they dissected his body, they realized with horror that his heart was still beating. His heart continued to beat for some hours before it finally stopped. This was a huge scandal on both sides of the atlantic. I would like to say it was tha scandal cose people were very concerned about the ethical treatment of condemned prisoners.
