The Importance of Religious Dimensions in the Conflict Between the Two Powers
Was it merely a grab for resources or territory? Or was there real roots in ideology or theology? I think you can view it through a number of different lenses. There were ideological and religious dimensions to that conflict. The idea of fighting wars between these two powers was deeply attractive, almost on its own terms. To be involved in that conflict was a justification in its own right.
