Industrial alcohols could still contain ethyl alcohol, but they needed to alter it in some way. This alternative type of alcohol is known as methyl alcohol or methanol. When our bodies process it, it breaks down into formaldehyde and formic acid. You don't want either formaldehyde or formic acid in your body because they both do damage to it. It will cause you to go blind, literally you lose your sight, and it can kill you.
