The Freudian Dialogue Between Analyst and Patient

Freud wasn't coming up with a theory of memory in general. He was only trying to work out what was happening, seriberely. What he was interested in was a certain class of memories and their role in therapeutic treatment. These were the memories of painful early events which had proved intolerable to the individual. They could be placed at the center of an entirely new sort of conversation between clinician and patient.
