Hobbs' Leviathan
Hobbs admired this way of reasoning so much that he lays out his leviathan in a very similar way. For instance, the first chapter is centered around explaining the most basic of concepts and then how those senses form thoughts and ideas. Then from there, we arrive at the stage where we use speech as a means to convey these ideas to other people because we can now record them for future thoughts to be based on.
