The Cost of Laos' Success
Laos has achieved success against certain markers, but it seems that in recent years we're becoming more aware that it hasn't been successful across the board. The impact of pressures like this rising sovereign debt, for example, is revealing the cost of this success on people and communities as a whole. And I think from afar there is a success story around nation state building and the expansion of a market economy. But when we look closely at things become much more complicated and that forces of development reveal themselves to often be quite violent and to further disadvantage vulnerable, anti-pobbish communities.
