The Importance of Innocence in the Philosophers' People
Blake and Murdoch share a neoplatonic vision of the moral life. Blake refutes the overreaching advances of the sciences in his work. He locates instead the value of love, imagination and attention. Eastcoat's sermon echoes Blake's critical attitude to romantic trope of innocence. The songs of innocence and experience are intended to show the two contrary states of the human soul.
