The Wanting in the Aversion
As soon as we're in a conversation and we feel in some way unpleasantness going on, we try to control our experience. We might drift off internally. There's a saying that the process of of dying starts at birth and accelerates at dinner parties. So no wonder goldfish have more sustained attention. You know, we get pulled all around by this complex mix of what we're wanting to happen and what we're not wanting to happen. And just to say that sometimes the wanting in the aversion doesn't have anything to do with the other person.
