The Early Evidence of a Wooden Spear
Shurningen is now dated to approximately 300,000 years ago. There's hominins we're using this lake shore over a very long period of time. The particular horizon where we see the spears is called the spear nicknamed the spear horizon. We also have two throwing sticks from that site. These are shorter, double pointed sticks that we think they threw like that rotationally at prey rather than either throwing over hand or thrusting. So really, really a whole assemblage of tools at the site.
