The History of Sign Language
Shoshana Ungerleiter: It took hundreds of years for society to recognize that sign language is, in fact, necessary. She says it wasn't until sign language was enshrined as official language did the deaf and hard of hearing community finally get recognition they always deserved. Today, over 70 million people use sign language; there's more than 300 different sign languages across the globe.
