There was talk of money. Conan Doyle sent presents. He did say that he was going to provide a dowry for Elsie who, by the time he got involved in it, she was engaged to be married. But mostly where the money would have come from and should have come from would have been from copyright to the photographs. Edward Gardner took the copyright out in his own name. Everyone agreed to this for the girl's privacy.
