Two weeks after paradise opened, columbia filed a lawsuit against producers, embassy and r s l pictures. Columbia wanted an immediate injunction on paradise's advertising and ultimately asked that the film be removed from theatres. Both of these requests were ultimately thrown out of court by a judge who sided with the lawyers representing paradise. But the law suit only emboldened phoebe kates to speak more openly about what a piece of shit her debut film had been.
