Forgiveness was not considered to be a good thing in pre-Christian cultures. Mercy demonstrated that you were weak, he says. Jesus doesn't just make it a good thing, He makes it a possibility and then of course Jesus makes it a reality. "Justice is still good but mercy even trumps justice"
