Is There a Difference Between Hoarding and OCD?

People feel a sense of comfort when they have their spaces filled up. Hoarding was only given its own diagnostic criteria in the DSM in 2013, but in the past it was considered a subtype of obsessive compulsive disorder. We also know that people who have trauma often feel safer surrounded by their stuff. The point of making a diagnosis is to inform treatment and increase understanding and empathy.
