Tolstoy is immediately disgruntled, he is scornful of society and as you go through this text it seems like what Tolstoy actually has is not a disgust for art or popular art itself but a disgust for people generally. He tries to elevate himself above the crowd,. many writers do this with his uber-mensch, his superman, Tolstoyactually scorns Nietzsche, he scorns everybody, I mean it's not a surprise.
