The idea of codependency is a very western thing, ecose o that western idea of indeadens being the ideal exact. But special considerations should be made for cultural and ethnic contexts regarding all of this. If you are in an un safe situation, as jays said, and you need to get out of it, then absolutely do that. Sometimes it's good to look at the critiques and challenge the idea that this worried co dependent has so much power simply because it's super popular.
