Poles work because they measure a random sample that reflects the electorate. The problem poling has now as lot of people won't take the poll, so you don't get a true sample of the electric ters. Try to get around this by using what they call multi motal poling which is they call some people on land lines and some people on their sell phones. Some people get a text, you click, and then you go on lines. So that's how they try to get as representative a sample of the electorate as possible for the 800 or so questionairs they need filled out,. Then they weight it statistically. It can look at past patterns, but every election is different
