I wanted to write it in a more distant, you know, omniscient, their person point of view. I realized that the National Archives files were filled with so much fiction allowed me to give space to the oral stories and the family stories. And what I realized, one of the things I needed to do was I needed to bring myself into their two as a way for the reader to understand and make sense of this all.
