The harder you train, the harder you need to recover. This isn't just true with sport - it's true with life as well. We often want to plan this recovery around life itself. I was working with a female athlete recently who said that at a certain point in her cycle she would have very high fatigue levels. So she planned her recovery weeks in to meet the needs of her menstrual cycle. It doesn't happen by accident. The recovery is planned within their training.
