Job and Job's Friends Grovelling at God's Feet
In the bible, god is accused of being unjust and hypocritical. But when he shows up, anger's not directed at job but his friends. The psychologist karl young wrote a short book speculating that maybe this encounter with job had awakened something like a conscience in god. And so if god was causing or allowing his suffering despite his promise to look after those who kept his word, then it was god who was to blame, not him.
