The Devil Was Sick, the Devil Among Could Be

I think there's this challenge to get beyond some of the close analogies that you're talking about. This idea that we just give love to God, expecting nothing in return, having no sense of dependence upon God, et cetera, would not be fitting either. And so there's something about appreciative love or appreciative pleasure that sees within its object something that is worthy of admiration and worship. The closer we come to God in that sort of analogy, the road tails off and there's nothing more that we can do.
