How Did You Know You Had Juvenile Diabetes?
In the late 80s, diabetics weren't supposed to compete in sport because there was risk of hypoglycemia on the other side. But when he was active in moving, you know, his parents used themselves as a control group. So they put him in a swim team at six years old. He learned two things: One good control glucose, I can win and second bad control glucose,I will fail. And it became kind of a driving focus for me. To have good control so that I don't go blind. That's what led me to the bike because at 12 years old, I took 35 cents to the candy book, a stack machine at school.
