Risky behaviour in adolescents is probably a really bad thing to select for. We think that if we weren't programmed evolutionarily to be more risk tolerant when we're adolescents, the species wouldn't have survived. There is more dopamine activity in the brain's reward centers during adolescence than at any other time in human development. It also helps to explain why adolescents engage in a lot of risky behavior.
