The Complex Roots of Patriarchy with Angela Saini

This Anthro Life

CHAPTER

The Importance of Tradition in the History of Power Structures

In your new book, you explore the idea of patriarchy in prehistory. You go back to Kettle Hujuk 9,000 years before writing and hieroglyphics. There's no real sense that people lived in very gendered ways at this time. Men and women spent around the same amount of time indoors or outdoors. And it shows that men and women did roughly the same kind of work. So we can't just say that prehistory was necessarily patriarchal by the way then we cannot say that Pre-History is not gender neutral.
