Ruth Ann Leeschman is familiar with Julie's case. She had a lot of antibodies, which means basically she only matches with about 6% of the population. Her husband was offering to donate one of his kidneys to someone, anyone, since he wasn't a match with Julie. There were just over 25,000 kidney transplants in the US last year. About one fourth of those came from living donors.
