The Turkish president has admitted what he describes as his government's shortcomings in response to this massive quake. The president has declared a three month state of emergency in the 10 hardest hit provinces in the south. These are provinces that are traditionally supporters of the president and his AK party. There is an election in Turkey, mid-May, or certainly that is what it was scheduled for.
