The Dark Ages Had a Synthesis
The ancient pagans had an intuition about other peoples, which is that they would always be trying to pinpoint their strange gods. And so even it was there before Christianity, but then when Christianity arrived, there is almost this idea that all of this now culminates into Christ. All the good elements of these ancient traditions can be kind of pulled into this one story.
