How to Deal With Hysteria in Salem
In Salem, the failure to do this is what made the whole tragedy worse. By keeping the afflicted girls together during the witch examinations, authorities were exacerbating the physical and mental symptoms. Had those girls been separated, or better yet, removed from the courtroom altogether, then there's little doubt that the hysteria would have reached a fever pitch where so many people died.
