Changes in Social Reproduction and the Role of the Family in the Neoliberal Era

This chapter discusses the privatization of social reproduction and the shift of long-term care from the state to the family in the neoliberal era. It explores the family as the care of last resort and its relationship to gender as a technology. The chapter also addresses the limitations of the family and the incentives in place to encourage the nuclear family structure.
