Can't We Just Use Diesel for All This Equipment?
All of the equipment that uses diesel is designed for it. The fuel itself costs more per gallon or per liter than gasoline. But it runs so much more efficiently that in the end you end up saving a lot of money. It was chosen over gasoline way back when because it's a more energy compact form of fuel.
