The Inherent Short Termism of Asset Management

Most investment funds have a fixed life 10 to 12 years would be a typical example. At the end of that say 10 years the asset manager has to return all the money they've been charged with managing to their clients together with any profits made. That is what creates this kind of inherent short termism and something like 90 percent of investment into the real estate and infrastructure funds managed by asset managers is into these fixed term funds.
