The Life and Times of Lilly

Lilly bought the performing rights of librettist Pierre Perre and composer Robert Cambeur. This meant that Lilly was the opera composer of France. No one could produce any operas in the country without his permission. In 1681, Lilly made a really interesting move by basically diving from the stage into the orchestra near his part's conclusion.
