How to Write Well
Each story is part of a tapestry and every writer contains their influences. You want illusions, you want nods to your favourite writers. Your favourite writers are part of your artistic DNA. Writing well means reading well. And once you've got something down on paper, you want to begin editing. Do not edit whilst you write. That almost never works. Stephen King would talk about killing your darlings. When rereading and revising, do not think about what should be added. No matter how admirable the thoughts that come from the truth, you're not going to be able to do it.
