What Happens if an FCM Goes Blown?

Carl wrote a small novel when he sent in his questions, but I have shared them with you because I don't think necessarily we're going to get to all of them. The short answer is actually that I'm not a lawyer and an expert on regulation and compliance. So anything I say will almost certainly be wrong and you shouldn't rely on it. But there are some things that happen. Examples of futures brokers going bust an MF Global was a famous example. That could have been very nasty for us indeed. It's definitely much safer to trade futures with an onshore exchange backed by a big clearinghouse through a good well capitalized, well regulated broker.
