How to Train Aerobic Base Fitness in Zone Two
The main thing is we are training the type one aerobic muscle fibers with the lower intensity training. When you're riding a low intensity, you're going to be recruiting more of those type one muscle fibers. Those are what how's the mitochondria and are what will build that aerobic base. Once you cross over into tempo, you are going to begin to recruit more ofthose type two fibers. And then the other thing that will happen is you'll start to transition more to card burning rather than fat burning. The type one fibers can use lactate for fuel.
