JFK had grown up near starvation. His family occasionally ran out of food and they would have to borrow meals essentially from neighbors or ask for handouts. He understood its power in a very visceral way that many presidents don't. One point we have not gotten on the table is how is all this paid for, this entertaining by presidents? It's still confusing today.
